FIGURE 1-44 Filling a Selection When you fill a selection, you blend a color or a pattern into the selection area. Photoshop allows you to choose a color, a blending mode, and a percentage of opacity. Blending modes are the ways in which pixels in the image are affected by a color. Examples of blending modes include normal, lighten, darken, and other color manipulations. Opacity refers to the level at which you can see through the color to reveal the paper or layer beneath it. For example, 1% opacity appears nearly transparent, whereas 100% opacity appears completely opaque.
Photoshop provides several ways to create a border, ranging from simple color transformations around the edge of the photo, and predefined decorated layers, to styled photo frames. A border helps define the edge of the photo especially when the photo may be placed on colored paper or on a Web page with a background texture. A border visually separates the photo from the rest of the page. Rounded borders soften the images in a photo. Square borders are more formal. Decorative borders on a static photo can add interest and amusement, but can easily detract from the focus on a busier photo.
